Braid Crossing! Five Star Braid Tutorial

Braid Crossing Welcome back! I have returned tan and with more contrast on my roots from St. Thomas, and felt inspired to do a twisty-turvy Dutch braid tutorial in honor of the turny roads of the island. I feel like this braid is great for working out (I have worn this braid with the bun option to yoga), but its also fancy enough to wear to an event – especially one where you might be wearing a dress or outfit that has it’s own criss-crossy pattern or motif. This crossing thing is new for me, and I learned that while it looks good with a little bit of pancaking, it can have a tendency to get a little messy in...

Headband Braids - Four Ways (Hair Styles and Updo for Medium Hair)

A rainy day produces curly/frizzy hair…and a frustrating braid bar session. I think to date, this was the longest time I’ve ever spent taking pictures, braiding, trying another thing, rebraiding, trying something else. Friends, if you think this is always something easy that produces the results you see, rest assured that sometimes I have as many moments wanting to pull out my hair than trying to braid it.As you’ll see from my pics, I decided it was high time to try to give you gals with naturally wavy/curly hair a few options, and so I slept with my hair wet last night. My hair is somewhat curly naturally, so I thought I’d give you a few options of things to...

Three French Braid Messy Bun Tutorial aka The Triple Lindy

Ooh! Something new and clever! This week I’ve deconstructed a braid updo from a single pic I found online. It seemed kind of complicated until I did a trial one and learned that it was a bit more simple than it looked. However, if you are still working on mastering just a French braid or Dutch braid, I would suggest trying some of my earlier tutorials first. The Three French Braid Messy Bun is elegant, relatively quick, and great for workouts since it stays in place very well. It is so good for workouts, I went to hot yoga with this hair style and other than maybe spraying down the frizz afterwards, it looked pretty much as good afterwards as...

Step-by-step Braid Tutorial on Double-Dutch Fishtail Half-up Messy Bun

Phew - that's a mouthful: "Double-Dutch Fishtail Half-up Messy Bun"!  I’m back with a new, edgy style that combines a lot of more simple techniques that you can find in earlier posts, including Dutch braiding, Fishtail, and messy buns. I’ve gotten a lot of this type of inspiration recently from Pinterest, and if you aren’t following me on Pinterest, please check it out here: https://www.pinterest.com/sunquisthair/ I’m not sure what the occasion would be for this fun little number, but I wore it out last Friday when I was in LA, and got lots of comments, so maybe this is a style that lends itself well for being out and about.  Also - you might notice I decided to take off...

How to create a Braided Headband: Tutorial

Hey gals! Today’s blog post was inspired by a lot of the styles I’ve seen out there where there is a braid in the front going almost over the head.   I’ve played around with starting on either side of the head but for this style I chose to start on the side with less hair. To be honest, because you are essentially doing a Dutch braid, I didn’t find that it mattered much as you will just have extra hair when you are done either way. If you have really long hair, you can take the braid and wrap it all the way around your head, pinning the bottom underneath where you started instead of pinning it underneath the bun...
